Charter schools need our help!

Charter schools are under attack.

Governor Ted Strickland’s budget proposal, introduced as legislation in the Ohio House this week, cuts funding for charter schools by $120 million dollars or more! If approved, the plan would cause such financial hardships that many charter schools would be forced to close, impacting tens of thousands of students and their families.

Nearly 9000 messages have already been sent to legislators by charter school supporters who responded to this call to action. Please join them and encourage others to do so. It only takes a few minutes and will have a significant impact. click here!

Thanks in advance for your support of this important grassroots initiative.

Also check out this article on ScienceDaily.com detailing the benefits of charter schools to our students!

Congratulations, TSA Music Department!

The TSA Music Department was well-represented at the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conference Jan. 15-17 in Columbus. The event draws a state-wide attendance of music educators, professionals, collegiate faculty and students, and music industry leaders. The Percussion Studio, led by Robert Desmond, and the Studio Orchestra, led by Jay Welenc and Diana Anderson, were selected by audition for feature performances at the conference. Both studios had outstanding performances, drawing high praise from all segments of the educational spectrum.

In addition, four TSA students were named to All-State ensembles: Katelyn Kaiser and Margaret Clark performed with the All-State Band, under the baton of noted composer James Barnes; Katelyn was selected to play piccolo solo parts, and both sat near the top of the section. Adam Nedrow and Nelson Overton were the percussion section for the All-State Jazz Ensemble; Nelson performed nearly all of the drum set parts, and Adam was a featured vibraphone soloist. This year marked the fourth performance in four years for TSA ensembles at this event.

Much Ado About Nothing

This February TSA will present William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. However, director Rosie Best has placed her own spin on the romantic comedy. Instead of Messina, Sicily Best has set the play in a 1920s traveling circus with the real action taking place off-stage behind the big top. In this setting Benedick is a lion tamer who is tricked into professing his love to Beatrice, a snake charmer. Hero, the bride to be, is an animal trainer and her father, Leonato, is the ringmaster instead of a nobleman. The period circus setting also gives an opportunity for unique costume and scenery designs and even some puppetry. Performances will be February 5-7 at 7:00 PM and February 8 at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Call 419-246-8732 x226 to order tickets.
